  • THE INGRAHAM TRAIL

    The Ingraham Trail, also called Highway 4, spans from Yellowknife to Tibbitt Lake in the Northwest Territories, covering about 70 km. Built in the 1960s as part of Canada's National Highway System, it encircles Great Slave Lake and serves industrial and recreational purposes. The trail is used for the Tibbitt to Contwoyto Winter Road, accessing diamond mines and featured in Ice Road Truckers. It provides access to seasonal and year-round cabins. The trail connects Dettah to Yellowknife and links Nunavut to Canada's road network via the Tibbitt to Contwoyto Winter Road. Named after Vic Ingraham, a Yellowknife businessman, it's a prime location to view the aurora borealis from August to April.
